As a child, I always had a creative streak. My school's parent-teacher meetings were filled with praise from my art and design technology teachers. Today, I find joy in being a husband and father, nurturing my creativity, and being captivated by the intricacies of the world. I'm also a fan of music, movies (especially the Marvel Cinematic Universe), and football!
After leaving school, I originally planned to study graphic design in college. But in the end, I chose to study music technology. I excelled in my studies, learning audio engineering, music production, and even rap. I was ready to chase my dream of becoming a famous music producer!
I volunteered at a local music studio that also served as an alternative education hub for at-risk high school students. Starting with making tea, I eventually became a tutor and then a mentor for kids with complex behavioural needs. While this experience taught me valuable interpersonal skills and was rewarding, something was missing – my creativity.
So, I decided to get back to my true passion – creativity. I became a web development intern at the city council. I worked hard to learn about development, and within two years, I went from an intern, to a temporary web assistant which was subsequently made permanent, to a web officer. I had found my career!
As I delved into my work, I became more drawn to the user experience side of design and development. My knack for observation and attention to detail became valued by the business. I realised I had more to learn and offer, not just at work but also in my free time. I began collaborating on projects with local businesses in my spare time, from user experience design to logos and websites.
My past experiences have helped me to understand the needs of both users and businesses. I've grown in my career by gaining extensive corporate experience, using what I've learned to improve processes and make each project and product better.
Exploring the human experience through interactions with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures has been fulfilling. Gathering diverse viewpoints on products, understanding their interpretations, and creating products that resonate with different perspectives is particularly fascinating to me!
